Say "cheese"

You hear the best news at the hair salon. Really. It isn't just idle gossip. Yesterday, while having my hair colored, I got to overhear the salon owner talking about the new drug for teens: cheese. Not the by-product of Bessie's juice, but a combination of black tar heroin and some over-the-counter antihistamines. The salon owner specified Benadryl, but CNN specifically mentions Tylenol PM.

The problem seems to be localized in Dallas, but now that CNN is advertising it, chances are use will crop up in other parts of the country. Especially since it's so cheap. Pine Magazine calls it a "Poor Man's Heroin" for kids.

The satire has already begun on ridiculopathy.com.

WM3 anniversary

Sunday marked the 14th anniversary of three young men being locked up for a brutal crime that, in my opinion, they did not commit. I first heard about the WM3 at a Henry Rollins spoken word show three years ago. Then, I read his book about touring to raise funds for the case.

Shortly after that, tattooist Erik Desmond asked my (soon-to-be-ex-) husband to donate a sketch for a book that he was putting together, The West Memphis Three v. freedom.

I've got the t-shirt to show my support. And on Sunday, while my friend Marisa was thinking of the three as she ran around Brooklyn, I curled on the couch for a documentary marathon: Paradise Lost and Paradise Lost 2.

Considering the date, there is sadly little news this week surrounding the event. Maybe next year Damien, Jessie and Jason will be free to celebrate.

First post to my new blog.

I promise- it will get more exciting.
